April 9

We were fortunate to welcome two speakers tonight in our continuing conversations about supporting habitats for pollinators.

Indie Lorick ’26, member of our People for Pollinators (our Bee Campus USA folks), who has been dedicated to helping map the invasive (or invited) plants on campus, presented an activity that guided the audience to identify and select native plants and shrubs to attract and support native birds.

Kay Evanovich, one of the arborists for the City of Decatur, shared information about tree biology and care.

The presentations this evening, especially in combination, expanded our previous considerations of native habitats in residential years. Moving beyond plants and insects to birds and trees, we are thinking together about multiple ways to invite in and care for various species through intentional choices — and resources!
