July 2024

In fall 2023, Agnes Scott College launched the Department of Creative Arts, merging disciplines of art history, dance, music, studio art, and theatre into a new major with concentrations in these fields, a major currently unmatched in other liberal arts colleges. The new curriculum rethought art and art history as visual practices and added digital media to the catalog.

Although we were a department of two interrelated yet distinct disciplines before, the merging of the visual and performing arts into a single major, with four common classes and concentration requirements, required us to broaden and focus on thinking–to grow a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach and also discern and refine skills and content in our concentration.

It is clear to us that the Building on Dana project is logical extension of the work we did with our Creative Arts colleagues and for our students in order to envision a curriculum that is more intentional, communal, inclusive, and accessible.

Here is a blog that was wrote for Admission as we were starting to introduce the Department of Creative Arts:.
