Christina Crawford, MArch, PhD, Art History, Emory University
September 16
Christina Crawford, our first guest speaker, provided an outstanding introduction to our class in an overview of John Portman’s career in the context of postwar urban development in Atlanta. Her analysis of his Peachtree Center and his famous atria, including those of the Hyatt Regency and the Marriott Marquis, offered significant context for Dana Fine Arts Building. Her suggestions of the ways that the spaces in the Dana Fine Arts Building relate to some of these later designs made us even more excited to delve into research.
