Heather Ligler, who has worked with Mr. Portman and studied his architecture as an historian, introduced the shape grammar of Entelechy I (1964), Portman’s house designed for his family in Buckhead, which he claimed was generative for later architectural projects. As Heather has examined and demonstrated, this domestic space indeed shares design features with the Dana Fine Arts Building, opened just a year later, and other public buildings. Her approach was illuminating, both as an introduction to practice and as a tool for exploration.
